Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal. It works by inserting a tiny probe that is one tenth the size of a needle into the hair follicle and delivering a small current of heat, destroying it so hair cannot regrow. At Furless Permanent, we specialise in safe, precise electrolysis treatments that work on all hair colours, skin tones, and body parts.
Electrolysis permanently destroys hair follicles, making it the most effective solution for unwanted hair. Laser hair removal is a permanent hair reduction method that works best on dark hairs on light skin. Electrolysis works on all skin tones, all hair colours (including blonde, grey, red, white, and hormonal hair), and is suitable for all body parts.
Yes. Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved method of permanent hair removal. Once you finish your entire course of treatment, the hair follicles that were treated will no longer be able to produce hair ever again.
Electrolysis is suitable for women and men of all skin tones and hair colours. It is ideal for people who haven’t achieved results with laser hair removal. It is particularly effective for people with hormonal hair growth, such as those with PCOS, thyroid conditions, or menopause-related changes.
Yes, electrolysis is completely safe for delicate areas including the upper lip, chin, sideburns, bikini line, and underarms. For clients with low pain tolerance, we offer numbing cream at an additional charge to make treatments more comfortable.
Think of electrolysis like going to the gym for abs. One session will not give you permanent results but consistency over time does the trick. The number of sessions depends on the area being treated, the amount of hair, and your individual hair growth cycle. On average, most clients see permanent results after regular sessions over 12 to 18 months. Your first consultation with one of our expert electrologists will give you a personalised treatment plan so you will know the estimated number of sessions, duration, and cost. Stick with it and once you complete your full course you will enjoy permanently smooth, hair-free skin. The long-term results are worth the investment.
Session times for electrolysis permanent hair removal depend on the area you want to treat. Small areas like the upper lip or chin may only take around 15 minutes, while larger areas such as legs, back, or arms can take up to an hour. You can even treat multiple areas in one session. After your free consultation and personalised assessment, your electrologist will give you an estimate of how many sessions you will need and the total duration of your treatment plan. Think of it like investing in your smooth, hair-free skin. The more consistent you are, the better the long-term results! We recommend booking a session every 2 weeks.
Many people worry about pain, but the truth is you do not feel the probe being inserted. The probe is blunt and about one tenth the size of a needle, so it glides into the hair follicle without any feeling. What you do feel is a quick flash of heat, which most clients describe as a small mosquito bite. It is slightly uncomfortable for a moment but very manageable. For sensitive areas such as the face or bikini line, numbing cream is available at an additional cost, though most clients manage perfectly well without it. Staying well hydrated before your session can also make the experience smoother because hydrated skin and hair follicles allow the hair to glide out more easily. Overall, electrolysis is a mild, well-tolerated sensation, and your electrologist will guide you to make each session as comfortable as possible.
Yes, electrolysis is safe and effective for all hair colours, skin tones, and body parts. Unlike laser, which relies on dark pigment to reduce hair growth, electrolysis works permanently on white, grey, blonde, and red hair as it treats unwanted hair directly from the follicle. Electrolysis also works safely on areas affected by vitiligo.
Yes. Electrolysis is the most effective option for hormonal hair growth, including hair caused by PCOS, thyroid disorders, and menopause. While hormones may continue to trigger new follicles to grow hair, once treatment is finished on the area with the unwanted hair, each individual follicle will never grow back.
Yes, it is okay to start electrolysis while you are pregnant but only once a medical note from your doctor is presented to confirm that it is safe to begin treatment. Hormonal changes during pregnancy can affect hair growth, so this ensures your treatment is both safe and effective. Treatments can safely resume after pregnancy and breastfeeding if you choose to wait.
Electrolysis can be performed almost anywhere on the body, including the face, chin, eyebrows, bikini line, underarms, arms, legs, chest, and back. It is the most versatile method for permanent hair removal.
I've booked my first appointment. What's next?
To get the most out of your electrolysis sessions, a little preparation goes a long way. Avoid waxing, threading, or tweezing for at least 2–3 weeks before your appointment as our electrologists need to work with hair that is a minimum of 2mm in length. Keep the area clean and free from makeup, oils, or heavy creams.Being well hydrated helps make the treatment more comfortable because hydrated skin and hair follicles allow the hair to slide out more easily. For sensitive areas like the face or bikini line, numbing cream is available at an additional cost, though most clients manage perfectly well without it. Alternatively, you can apply numbing cream yourself ahead of your appointment. Finally, share any skin conditions or medications with your electrologist so your treatment plan can be customised safely.
After your session, your skin may be a little sensitive or red and this is completely normal and should disappear within 24 - 48hours. Avoid touching or picking at the treated area for 24 hours. Skip heavy sweating, intense workouts, saunas, and hot tubs for a day. Stay out of direct sun for 24–48 hours and apply SPF if you need to go outdoors. Use gentle soothing products like aloe vera gel. Following these steps helps your skin recover quickly and ensures your permanent hair removal results last. Your electrologist will share a recommended post care treatment plan and products with you, which are available to purchase at every Furless Permanent branch.
Electrolysis is permanent, but hair growth depends on the hair growth cycle. Some hairs are in a resting phase during your session, so they may appear at a later stage. Hormonal changes, PCOS, or other medical conditions can also trigger new hair growth. However, consistency is key. Stick to your treatment plan to ensure long-term smooth results. Make sure to book in for each appointment every two weeks. Think of it like building muscle at the gym: results take time, but they last when you stay committed.
Hair removal methods like shaving, waxing, or threading only remove hair temporarily and need to be repeated regularly. Electrolysis, on the other hand, targets the individual hair follicle itself for permanent hair removal. It works on all skin tones, hair colours, and body parts, including hormonal or PCOS hair, making it the long-term permanent solution compared to temporary fixes or laser.
By beginning your electrolysis course, you agree to follow your personalised treatment plan, attend regular sessions, and follow the recommended before and aftercare instructions. Your consultation also ensures you understand the number of sessions, costs, and expected results. This commitment helps you achieve the best permanent hair removal outcome.
After electrolysis, gentle, soothing skincare products help calm the skin and prevent irritation. We recommend SPF to protect your skin from sun exposure, Aloe Vera for moisturisation and calming and an Antiseptic cream to support healing and reduce the risk of infection. Please avoid harsh scrubs or exfoliants for at least 48 hours. Your electrologist can also recommend products tailored to your skin type and the area treated, helping you maintain smooth, healthy skin while your results settle.
Yes. At Furless Permanent, we offer cataphoresis, a soothing post cleaning treatment that helps calm and heal your skin after your electrolysis sessions. Cataphoresis works by using a mild electrical current to push soothing and healing serums into the skin, reducing redness, inflammation, and discomfort.
