Why Electrolysis Hair Removal Didn’t Work for You

Many people searching for permanent hair removal eventually try electrolysis. Yet some walk away believing it simply didn’t work for them. According to Mariela Marcantetti, Founder of Furless Permanent, this is something the team hears regularly from new clients. “Many people come to us saying they tried electrolysis before and it didn’t work,” she explains. However, in most cases the issue is not the treatment itself.

When electrolysis is performed correctly and the treatment process is followed properly, it works. Electrolysis is widely recognised as the only method of permanent hair removal, unlike laser hair removal, which provides hair reduction rather than permanent elimination.

At Furless Permanent, with centres in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh, the team has successfully completed treatment for more than 20,000 clients seeking permanent hair removal results. So why do some people believe electrolysis failed them?

Why People Think Electrolysis Didn’t Work

In the experience of the Furless Permanent team, the vast majority of clients who believe electrolysis failed them simply did not follow the recommended treatment process. Permanent hair removal requires consistency, focus and time. At Furless Permanent, this treatment process is known internally as the Furless Golden Rules.

Golden Rules for Treatment Success

1. Consistent appointments

Clients should attend sessions regularly, typically every two weeks on average. Long gaps between appointments can slow progress significantly because untreated hairs continue to cycle through different growth phases.

2. Treating the same area consistently

For the best results, the same treatment area should be fully cleared at each appointment. Switching between different body areas delays permanent progress and extends the treatment timeline.

3. Completing the full treatment journey

Permanent hair removal takes time. Most treatment plans require around 18 months or more, depending on the treatment area and individual hair growth cycles.

When these rules are not followed, it can create the impression that hair is continuously returning, when in reality new hairs are simply appearing as part of the natural growth cycle.

The 5 Golden Rules for Electrolysis Care

In addition to following a consistent treatment schedule, proper skin care before and after electrolysis sessions plays an important role in achieving the best results. At Furless Permanent, we advise our clients to follow these five golden rules for electrolysis care to protect the skin and support the healing process:

1. Protect your skin from the sun

Avoid tanning or direct sun exposure for at least 48 hours before and after treatment. When outdoors, always apply SPF 30 or higher sunscreen to protect the treated area.

2. Stay hydrated

Drink at least two litres of water daily. Proper hydration helps keep the skin and hair follicles healthy, which can support healing and make electrolysis sessions more comfortable.

3. Moisturise regularly

Apply a good quality moisturiser morning and night. After treatment, recovery creams should be applied three to four times per day during the first three days to help soothe the skin.

4. Be gentle with your skin

Avoid chemical peels, abrasive facials, exfoliating treatments and retinol products for at least two weeks before electrolysis sessions to prevent irritation.

5. Allow time for healing

Temporary redness or sensitivity after electrolysis is normal. Allow the skin at least 48 hours, or until fully healed, before returning to normal skincare routines or sun exposure.

Following these guidelines helps maintain healthy skin during treatment and ensures the best possible outcome from electrolysis hair removal.

Electrolysis vs Laser Hair Removal

Another common source of confusion is the difference between laser hair removal and electrolysis. Laser hair removal works by targeting pigment in the hair. Because of this, it is most effective on darker hair and lighter skin tones and typically produces hair reduction rather than permanent removal

Electrolysis works differently: A very fine probe, that is one tenth the size of a needle, delivers energy directly into the follicle, destroying the follicle’s ability to grow hair. Because the treatment does not rely on pigment, electrolysis works on:

  • All skin tones
  • All hair colours, including blonde, red, grey and white
  • Hormonal facial hair
  • Stubborn hair remaining after laser treatments

For this reason, electrolysis is often considered the gold standard for permanent hair removal.

The Importance of Skill and Expertise

Electrolysis is a highly precise treatment that requires extensive training and experience. At Furless Permanent, practitioners train exclusively in electrolysis for several months before treating clients independently. Electrolysis is the only treatment they perform every day.  Each practitioner has accumulated tens of thousands of treatment hours, treated thousands of clients, and undergoes continuous training and quality control several times each year. This level of focus allows the team to provide some of the most specialised electrolysis treatments in the Middle East.

A Life-Changing Hair Removal Treatment

Electrolysis is more than a cosmetic treatment. For many clients, it restores confidence and freedom. The team at Furless Permanent regularly meet people who have spent years hiding unwanted hair, avoiding social situations, or relying on temporary solutions such as shaving, waxing or repeated laser hair removal sessions. Permanent hair removal can change that.

Permanent Hair Removal in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh

When electrolysis is performed correctly and the treatment plan is followed consistently, the outcome is simple: the hair does not grow back.
